Movies over the past century have utilized the landscapes of Arizona in
developing their stories. Our mountains, deserts and canyons are included
in a range of films from westerns to science-fiction thrillers. Mr. Hruska’s
presentation explores some of the more unique ways in which Arizona’s
landscape has aided the makers of American movies. Popcorn and drinks will be served.

Check out the ArtWalk here on the Square! Experience visual artists, who have art for sale, musicians, and poetry. The First Friday Poetry at Heritage Square features headliner poets then has open mic interludes, which means YOU the public can read your original poetry or treasured works from another poet. The ArtLInk Gallery is open with a free exhibition featuring new emerging contemporary artists. The Rosson House Museum has first floor tours for $1, and the Arizona Science Center is open just for grown-ups with Adult Night Out. And, it is all FREE, except $1 admission for special RHM tour.

Happy Valentine’s Day! Valentine’s Day cards in the late 19th and early 20th century were fanciful and whimsical. The residents of the Rosson House most likely made some of their own cards, especially children of the Rosson, Goldberg, and Higley families. Come to the Museum, see cards from the Rosson House Museum collection, then make a late Victorian-period Valentine’s Day card for your someone special. Heritage Saturday is a free, drop-in family history program from 10 am to 2 pm. This program is recommended for ages five and up.

Do you treasure your old family photographs? Are you the keeper of special garments handed down to you by your grandparents or great-grandparents? We all have at least one family heirloom, whether its a photograph, article of clothing, special letter, or something else. However, you may be puzzled about the care of your family keepsake. Rosson House Museum Collections Manager Lindsey Vogel will introduce you to some of the best ways to care for and protect your family heirlooms. Non-members: $8, Members: $5. In the 1990’s, archaeology was done before the construction of Heritage Garage. At the time, archaeologist Mark Hackbarth was the project director, and Dr. Bostwick was the archaeologist for the City of Phoenix. Findings from the excavation were amazing. A host of experts present the historic and prehistoric archaeology of Heritage Square.

Citizens of historic Phoenix were familiar with recycling, although they may not have used that word. Fabric scraps, for instance, were not thrown way. Instead, they were used to make rugs. The Rosson House Museum has a number of handmade rugs in its collection. Learn about different types of rag rugs. Find out how to make a braided rag rug and wagon wheel rug. Then, weave your own rag placemat. Heritage Saturday is a free, drop-in family history program from 10 am to 2 pm. This program is recommended for ages six and older.
